Here is a summary of historic Protestantism
We believe and teach that there is one infinite and eternal God. This one God is Triune, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Therefore, this Triune God is to be served above all others and alone is to be worshiped.
We believe and teach that the Bible is God’s holy, inspired, and inerrant word and that in it God has revealed all that is necessary for salvation in Christ and living a godly life. Therefore, the Scriptures are our standard of faith and practice.
We believe and teach that in six days God created the world and mankind, and it was all “very good.” God made mankind in His image to govern the earth under His rule by being fruitful and multiplying and taking dominion over creation. Therefore, mankind is responsible to bring God’s good rule to all people and creatures.
We believe and teach that God made mankind male and female and established marriage to be an exclusive, covenantal union between one man and one woman for life, with man as covenant head and woman as his helper. Therefore, transgenderism, homosexuality, feminism, pornography, and all sexual activity outside of marriage are sinful rejections of God’s created order.
We believe and teach that all mankind participated in Adam’s fall from sinlessness so that all people are conceived in sin. Therefore, sinful mankind rejects God’s rule for humanity and creation and incurs God’s just judgment.
We believe and teach that God sent Jesus Christ to save mankind from sin. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, equal to the Father and Holy Spirit, and also truly man, yet without sin. As a man, Jesus Christ fulfilled the law for His people, died for their sins, rose again from the dead for their justification, ever lives at the Father’s right hand to intercede for them, and will come again at the end of the world to judge the living and the dead. Therefore, redemption from sin and reconciliation to God is in Jesus Christ alone.
We believe and teach that God saves a person by uniting him to Christ and applying Christ’s redemptive work to him. The Holy Spirit causes him to be born again as a new creature in Christ, to turn from sin to Christ in true faith, credits Christ’s righteousness to him, makes him a brother and co-heir with Christ, renews him after the image of Christ, to persevere him in faith and faithfulness in Christ until his death, and will raise him from the dead at the future return of Christ. Therefore, the Christian life is centered on fidelity to Christ and requires not only a true faith in Christ but also faithful works for Christ.
We believe and teach that Christ reigns over all people to restore and complete the original good purposes of God in creation. To this end, Christ will build His church and extend His kingdom until the earth is full of the knowledge and glory of the Lord. All families, churches, peoples, and nations are to believe in Christ and serve Him. Therefore, Christians must be zealous to promote the truth, hope, love, and rule of Christ in every area of life.
We believe and teach that Christians are to die to sin and live unto righteousness. Though sin remains in those who have been united to Christ, the Holy Spirit conforms them more and more to the character of Christ. This process of sanctification is not passive but involves intentional effort by the individual and the help of Christian community. Therefore, it is the duty of Christians to spur one another on to love and good works and to seek to restore those in sin to repentance.
We believe and teach that Christ requires all Christians to be members of the church, which is His bride. This membership is not to be ethereal but in a local congregation and in submission to its leaders. The true church consists of all churches that confess the Triune God, the deity and humanity of Christ, salvation in Christ alone, and the authority and infallibility of the Bible. Therefore, church membership is essential for Christian growth in holiness.
We believe and teach that Christian doctrine and practice should be passed down from one generation to the next. These godly traditions are passed down within families, churches, and other communities, and should be received with humility and gratitude. God worked greatly through the Christendom of Western civilization to preserve and illuminate truths and ways of life that glorify Him. Therefore, as the descendants of Western Christendom, it is our duty to take up and improve upon its godly legacy and to preserve it for future generations.
