The three most powerful sails for RCCA.

Christian

Christ is our Lord. Jesus Christ has been given all authority in heaven and on earth. We will submit to His mission for all things in our lives. Therefore, all of our instruction will be done in His name and in submission to His will.

Scripture is our authority. God’s authoritative word is found in the Bible. In it we find the way of life in Christ, God’s commands for us, and our mission for life. Therefore, Scripture will be our guide and standard for what and how we teach.

Reformed is our tradition. The Reformed theological tradition fits these commitments to the supreme Lordship of Christ and the supreme authority of His word that all things may be to God’s glory. Therefore, Reformed theology undergirds our philosophy of education and our theological teaching.

Victory is our future. The authority the Father has given to Christ is for the salvation of the world. We participate in God’s work of building Christ’s kingdom in this world unto its full realization at Jesus’ return. Therefore, we learn and work with hope and confidence, knowing that Jesus empowers us for a task that cannot fail.

Classical

Classical education grounds us in an educational tradition. Classical education traces its roots back to the learning of the Greek and Roman periods and follows in the tradition of Medieval Europe in applying the truth of Christ to those insights. This learning came to define the civilizations of the global west, particularly in Europe and North America. Therefore, we are not beholden to modern trends in education but learn from the collective wisdom of Western civilization.

Classical education makes use of the Trivium. Classical education incorporates the disciplines of the Trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric) for learning language but also as a paradigm for learning every subject. Grammar relates to the essential elements of a subject, logic connects those elements to each other, and rhetoric involves synthesizing grammar and logic to produce original works. Therefore, we equip students to fully master each subject.

Classical education interacts with the great works of history. Classical education includes reading, memorizing, learning from, and critiquing the classical works that have shaped human thought and civilization. Therefore, we produce students who are themselves shaped by the great works of Western civilization.

Classical education brings the Christian faith to bear on all of life. Classical education is rooted in the conviction that Christ came not to save us out of the world but to redeem us and the way we relate to the world. A proper education teaches us to be more human by aligning us with God’s order and purposes in the world. Therefore, we prepare students to live faithfully before God.

Collaborative

God’s authority rests in the family. God commands the family to educate. With that command God also gives the family the authority to direct that education in submission to God’s word. Therefore, we teach as stewards and supporters of parental authority.

God’s culture is established in the family. God commands particular content and practices for education. Primarily, education serves to give understanding of the truth and ethics of Scripture, and to impart tools for taking dominion over creation. This requires not merely academic study but enculturation in a way of life passed on from our forefathers in faith. Therefore, we work to equip families with the knowledge of the Bible and the heritage of faith handed down to us from Western civilization.

God’s work in society begins with the family. The family is the most essential community and building block for all other communities. Families that are steeped in the wisdom of God for life will be the means of renewal, stability, and faithfulness in every larger community. Therefore, we invest in families to bring these blessings to society.

God’s promises are given to the family. God promises intergenerational grace and blessings to families that serve Him. The surest way to impart a godly educational heritage that will endure is for the family to lovingly pass it down. Therefore, we partner with families to educate, confident that God will be true to His promises.
